Job description

Offer DescriptionThis postdoctoral position is part of a collaborative research project, MODELGUIDE, which aims to promote the design and optimisation by modelling of new types of efficient and selective electrodes for CO2 conversion. These electrodes use silicon supports of different geometries (flat, micropillars, micropores) decorated with bimetallic nanoparticles. The ultimate goal is to use CO2 and produce “solar fuels”. MODELGUIDE proposes an original multidisciplinary approach combining photoelectrochemical experiments and photoelectric and electrochemical simulations. It brings together the expertise of three laboratories: ICMPE (Institut de Chimie et des Matériaux Paris-Est), GeePs (Laboratoire Génie électrique et électronique de Paris) and TAE (Theoretical and Applied Electrochemistry Group, at the University of Murcia in Spain).
The postdoctoral researcher will be a key person in the research project. He/she will be in charge of the photoelectric simulations (using SILVACO software) at GeePs, under the supervision of S. Le Gall (MdC at the University of Paris-Saclay), in order to rationalise and optimise the materials (e.g. macrostructure dimensions, metal nanoparticle coverage ). He will also carry out an experimental part at the ICMPE (under the supervision of E. Torralba, S. Bastide) to provide the experimental data needed for the simulations. At GeePs (75%): Use of Atlas-SILVACO © software for 2D simulations of the modulation of the silicon (Si) band bending at the metallic NP/Si/electrolyte interfaces to rationalise the collection of photocarriers (towards the metallic Si/NP nanojunctions vs. towards the Si/electrolyte interface). Simulations as a function of the metal work function, W, for different polarisations and fluxes to assess their impact on the collection of photocarriers. Experimental measurements with a Kelvin AFM probe will be carried out to determine the output work of the different specific metals used. The 2D modelling will be extended to Si/NP metal/electrolyte macrostructures (micropillar type) and then to an axially symmetric 3D geometry. In these studies, solar illumination will initially be performed using ray tracing modelling (variable n-k optical indices), but could be extended to other optical modelling techniques.À l’ICMPE (25%) : Photoelectrochemical testing of photocathodes (cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry). Determination of flat-band potentials by impedance spectroscopy. The ICMPE is a joint research centre (UMR 7182) of the CNRS and the Université Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC). ICMPE researchers (90 permanent staff and 70 non-permanent staff) develop original and innovative research in chemistry, materials science, physics, engineering and biology to respond to major societal challenges. The ICMPE’s areas of expertise cover three major interdisciplinary themes: materials for structures and energy, materials and processes for the environment and sustainable development, and chemistry for health at the interface with living organisms. The postdoctoral researcher will work in the PhotoElectroCatalysis for Energy and the Environment (PECEE) group. PECEE develops processes for the removal and recovery of pollutants such as urea, nitrates and CO2. In this context, it develops electrode materials consisting of photoactive semiconductors and supported bimetallic catalysts, whose composition and nanostructuring are optimised. Electrochemistry is the main research tool.GeePs is a joint unit of the CNRS, CentraleSupelec, Université Paris-Saclay and Sorbonne Université. It is located on the Centrale Supelec campus of the Université Paris-Saclay in Gif-sur-Yvette. With 250 employees, including 130 permanent staff and around 80 PhD students, it is one of the largest electrical engineering laboratories in the Ile-de-France region. The unit’s research combines a three-pronged approach: theory, numerical modelling, characterisation and experimental validation. It is divided into 3 areas, allowing activities to be carried out along a continuum ranging from materials to electronic or energy conversion systems. The postdoctoral researcher will work in the Materials Department, where we are interested in new materials for electronic and energy applications. In particular, we study the fundamental aspects of materials, their electrical properties, but also other physical or physico-chemical properties. These studies extend to the operation and properties of components made from these materials. We develop original characterisation platforms and techniques, as well as appropriate numerical modelling. Our main areas of application are photovoltaics, nanoelectronics, electrical contacts and interconnects.Where to apply WebsiteRequirementsResearch Field Engineering Education Level PhD or equivalentResearch Field Physics Education Level PhD or equivalentResearch Field Technology Education Level PhD or equivalentLanguages FRENCH Level BasicResearch Field Engineering Years of Research Experience 1 – 4Research Field Physics Years of Research Experience 1 – 4Research Field Technology Years of Research Experience 1 – 4Additional InformationEligibility criteriaThe candidate must have :
