The Electronics & Industrial (E&I) Industrial Solutions Healthcare business in Dupont is seeking an R&D Laboratory Technician/Technologist to join our HITC, R&D/TS&D team in Braine l’Alleud, Belgium.

The Healthcare business is a market-driven business delivering innovations in the healthcare space across a broad range of applications including wound treatment, transdermal and topical drug delivery, biopharma processing and medical devices.

This role includes supporting application development and R&D projects including performing industry standard testing and custom project or customer specific testing using scientific and laboratory methods. It is expected that the technologist responsibility extends into a collaborative partner with R&D/TS&D and sometimes customers and other functions including business development, marketing, regulatory, and production/quality. The person is expected to be competent in technical communication both oral and written. In some cases, the role will require laboratory guardian, including leading experimental reviews, STMs / SOPs, and be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the laboratory.

Job Roles & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with team on experimental design. Suggests modifications based on knowledge and skills of the experiments and testing methodologies.
  • Conduct experiments independently and collect, summarize, and present experimental results as well as recognize and troubleshoot problems as they arise in the laboratory.
  • Interprets experimental results and provides input to project team in support of new material development, process development, and application development.
  • Maintain, organize, and summarize results of experiments including notebook entries, regulatory documentation, data analysis, and technical reports.
  • Present data/results both internally and externally to customers, and at conferences/trade shows.
  • Active contributor in internal and external customer and vendor meetings to support product development and customer troubleshooting.
  • Assist and participate in the inventive process with other professionals through performing patent landscaping and helping to create invention disclosures.
  • Role requires knowledge in analytical testing/methodologies including HPLC, Rheometer/Viscometer, TGA, DSC, Zwick, XRF, FTIR, and UV-VIS.
  • Inspects, uses, and maintains lab research equipment including performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Implements new equipment and testing protocols in evolving technologies.
  • Provide cross-training for new employees as well as show support when questions or issues arise.
  • Writes and maintains procedures and safety documentation including risk assessments, PPE grids, safety procedures, hot work permits, and experiment reviews.

Qualification Profile

  • Applied / pure Chemistry, Chemical Engineering / Technology bachelor’s or master’s degree is preferred.
  • Capable of performing independently as well as interact effectively within teams.
  • Candidates will have a minimum year of experience in laboratory excellence and have demonstrated solid scientific methodology, 1 or 2 years of experience is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively partner with other technologists and functions.
  • Good Analytical & problem-solving skills. Able to do hands on mechanical equipment’s.
  • Willingness to learn and able embrace change on priorities/programmes.
  • Proficient in English & French language is must, additional European language skill is a plus.
  • Should be comfortable with occasional travel to support the development work.
