The International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS) is a relatively new organization with a mission to develop evidence-based solutions to tackle the challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The use of inappropriate use of antibiotics in human, animal, and agricultural sectors has led to rising AMR in countries. The consequence has been less effective antibiotics to treat infections leading to a global health crisis. Working in partnership with LMICs, ICARS uses intervention and implementation research to support the countries in tackling AMR by helping to implement their AMR National Action Plans through relevant contextual projects.As a self-governing institution, ICARS receives funding from the Danish Government and other countries and foundations. The Finance Team plays a crucial role in the management of all financial aspects of ICARS’ projects and running ICARS as an organization.Please visit for more information.About the position
As an experienced Finance and Grant Manager, you will assist the Director of Operations in relation to budgeting, accounting and financial reporting. Furthermore, you will give administrative support to the Science Department in ensuring that ICARS effectively delivers its projects and meet all accounting and reporting requirements from funders. You will work in close collaboration with ICARS’ Finance Assistant who is assisting with the day-to-day tasks and with the Group Consolidated Accounts and Payroll Administration Office of the Ministry of Health and the State Administration which supports ICARS in processing transactions.Your main tasks:

  • Budgeting, accounting and financial reporting to all stakeholders including donors and beneficiaries
  • Management and control of ICARS finances.
  • ICARS budget preparation, monitoring and control.
  • Work with ICARS statutory auditors during the annual audit process and throughout the year.
  • Supporting each project team with developing their budgets and financial procedures
  • Develop and manage ICARS’ financial reporting system vis a vis research projects and funders
  • Responsible for financial planning, accounting and audit of ICARS’ research activities
  • Ongoing financial reporting to ICARS’ Executive Management.
  • Any other matters related to finance, accounting and projects as assigned by the Executive Management

Your background, professional and personal qualifications
What makes you a great match for this position is your extensive experience with finance and grant management. We expect that you hold a degree in finances, economics, accounting or equivalent. It will be considered an advantage, if you have worked in an institution administrating funds from multiple donors, including the Danish government.Professional skillsWe are looking for an experienced Finance and Grant Manager with knowledge of and experience in:

  • Budgeting, finance and grant management
  • Preparing the corporate financial statements.
  • Public sector financial management, preferably in a Danish institution
  • Project administration and delivery of support and controlling services
  • Assuring compliance with regulations, standards and requirements associated with budgeting, financial reporting, grants and project administration
  • IT-literate, including strong excel skills and preferably experience with Navision Stat and associated systems (Indfak2, RejsUd etc.).

Personal qualifications

  • Excellent organisational skills with demonstrated ability to successfully manage competing priorities
  • Evidence of ability to multi-task and manage a fluctuating and at times heavy workload
  • Ability to build strong relationships and good collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in English (English is our working language). As you will be collaborating with Danish partners, experience in Danish will also be considered an advantage.

Salary and appointment terms will be based on the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and relevant agreements, depending on the candidate’s educational background. Depending on the candidate’s academic qualifications and experience we expect the positions to be classified at the level of either special consultant or chief consultant.We are based at Statens Serum Institut in Copenhagen, Denmark.This is a full-time position available as soon as possible.Further information
