We research and develop innovative technologies that push the boundaries of play, helping game developers make the best games on PlayStation. Part of FTG is the Connected Content Group, based in London, whose function is prototype exploration & validation.Role Overview:You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team on applied research on cutting-edge graphics techniques and novel rendering approaches. This will involve technology exploration in both the game and platform domains, development of proof-of-concepts, and collaboration with other teams in support of wider research efforts.A wide-range of experience and willingness to try new things is vital for working as part of a team with a dynamic focus, open to exploring new areas and ideas.We expect you to have an understanding of low-level rendering techniques and technologies, and the ability to conduct experiments and build prototypes in support of research efforts. Clear communication and thorough documentation practices are essential to work effectively as part of a large research group.What you’ll be doing:

  • Contributing to the design, architecture, and research of novel graphics techniques and rendering technologies..
  • Proposing and prototyping innovative solutions to complex rendering & distributed rendering challenges.
  • Developing game and system/platform components in support of research efforts.
  • Participating in ideation and collaborative design processes, providing input on technical challenges and exploring new possibilities.

What we are looking for:This is a mid-level role, but we are open to consider less experienced candidates that can demonstrate the below skills with a portfolio/github repo. You’ll need to be passionate about video games and software design, and you’ll need to have some (not all) of the following:

  • Bachelor’s-level degree in Computer Science or other bachelors with relevant experience/portfolio.
  • Demonstrable background or portfolio in computer graphics & rendering.
  • Strong technical experience with low-level graphics APIs and modern GPU architectures.
  • Deep knowledge of modern rendering pipelines and techniques.
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine & understanding of the UE rendering pipeline.
  • Familiarity with source control systems and modern development practices.
  • Deep analytical thinking and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Be proactive in identifying and addressing issues and opportunities arising from your day to day activities.
  • Self-starting attitude and ability to work independently on research/development/innovation efforts without requiring direct management.
  • Be curious and unafraid to challenge the status quo.

Nice to have:

  • Master’s-level degree Computer Science or a related field.
  • Familiarity with a variety of game engine technologies (e.g. Unity, proprietary engines).
  • Familiarity with console title development.
  • Familiarity with networking and distributed systems.
