Salary:Grade I: £37,099-£41,732;Grade J: £41,732 -£46,974 per annum depending on skills and experience (pro rata if part-time)The roleWe are seeking to appoint a talented quantitative researcher with expertise in a variety of statistical techniques for analysing data from large longitudinal studies. The post may be full or part-time and would ideally start on 1st October 2024.The post holders will be working on a major research project funded by a programme grant awarded by the John Templeton Foundation. The project will examine research questions concerning religious and/or spiritual beliefs and associated behaviours (RSBB) and their impact on mental and physical health and well-being of participants from infancy to adulthood in a large UK cohort – Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children ( ).What will you be doing?

  • Carrying out analyses using a variety of statistical techniques depending on the project in hand and the relevant field (e.g. psychology, epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, medical statistics).
  • Critically interpret findings and participate in the dissemination of these through high impact academic publications.
  • Participate in other forms of dissemination that may lead to impact e.g. presenting research findings at local, national, and international meetings and conferences

You should apply if

  • You have experience and evidence of applying advanced epidemiological statistical methods, including handling of missing data.
  • Previous experience of using ALSPAC data.
  • Experience of mediation analysis.
  • Evidence of good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrable high level of competency with statistical packages e.g. Stata, R
  • Experience of presentation of research results to varied audiences.
  • Self-motivation and ability to organise own time effectively.
  • Experience of leading on elements of research projects with support of PI/line manager (for appointment at J grade)
  • Track record of publication of research papers commensurate with candidate’s years of experience and completed projects (for appointment at J grade)

And at least one of the following:

  • Experience of longitudinal modelling techniques
  • Experience of latent variable modelling techniques
  • Good working knowledge of a structural equation modelling package e.g. Mplus
  • Experience of genetic and/or epigenetic analyses including GWAS and/or EWAS
  • Ability to assess concepts/theories and develop original solutions.
