Job Description:The Section for Civil and Architectural Engineering (CAE) at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in a field within Civil and Architectural Engineering. SDU CAE is part of the Department of Innovation and Technology (ITI), within the Faculty of Engineering at SDU. The position is available by 1 December 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.The application deadline is 15 September 2024 at 11.59 PM/23.59 (CET/CEST)Job DescriptionThe primary responsibilities assigned to the position include research, teaching, and supervision. The successful candidate will carry out research within timber structures and structural engineering, linked to the core research fields of the group, as described below. The group’s research areas involve traditional and innovative concrete and timber structures and assessment methods for determining the structural safety of existing structures. The ideal candidate will be able to contribute to and preferably build upon the existing areas of the research group. The research activities will be integrated with the educational programmes in Civil Engineering, where the selected candidate will contribute to teaching and supervision in the areas of structural engineering.The successful candidate is expected to carry out internationally competitive research activities, to publish in high level peer-reviewed academic journals as well as engage in other forms and levels of research dissemination, form industrial collaborations, and to play an active role in securing external funding, including both EU and Danish sources.A commitment to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate level is expected including participation in teaching and the development of new courses and in supervision of BSc, MSc and PhD students as required.The position as associate professor holds responsibility, but also comes with influence and opportunity to develop and deliver research and education to the highest international level.Primary research areaSDU Structures focuses on experimental, analytical, and numerical research of timber and concrete structures. The experimental research is predominantly carried out in the SDU Structures laboratory which is equipped with state-of-the-art testing and data acquisition equipment for structural testing. Within timber structures, the candidate may carry out research related to numerical modelling and analysis of wood and timber structures, experimental and analytical work on wood-based structures including connections.QualificationsApplicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent qualifications within the field of Civil and Architectural Engineering. A strong track record of research and scientific publications, as well as a demonstrated ability to attract research funding, are required for prospective associate professors. Research leadership and project management experience and excellent communication skills are considered essential.The successful candidate should have a well-documented teaching record in the relevant field(s). The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.Employment as an associate professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level as well as scientific and teaching qualifications at a level achievable based on satisfactory completion of a period of employment as assistant professor/researcher but may be achievable by other means.Assessment and selection process
