2 year FTC. Join a medium sized research company working within the environment, ICT, healthcare and food space. A company passionate about sustainability and ethical business looking for a Research Assistant offering great benefits and a friendly workplace. The Research Assistant will provide technical and scientific support to company research innovation activities, specifically by supporting implementation of organic electronic device fabrication and characterisation. This role is largely laboratory based.What you’ll be doing:

  • Carry out experiments- eg. produce inks, coat organic materials, assemble electronic devices and perform device characterisation).
  • Promptly collect and analyse experimental results accurately inputting into provided databases.
  • Accurately follow work procedures ensuring all necessary controls are in operation, to maintain high stands of housekeeping.
  • Proactively and effectively communicate issues, progress, plans and results to team members.
  • Present verbal and written report conclusions to team members.
  • Creatively contribute to idea generation, experimental studies and project meeting discussions.
  • Reliably and consistently following health and safety policy and procedures.
  • Ensure that health and safety standards are being met and maintained. Work safely within the laboratory environment; carry out COSHH and risk assessments of processes.
  • Maintain the highest standards of compliance within the scope of responsibility.
  • Contribution to the maintenance of a tidy and well-functioning laboratory environment for all laboratory users. Perform functional duties as required.

What experience you will need to apply:

  • Strong scientific background, including degree in a Chemistry, Material Science or Physics.
  • Previous experience of working in a scientific research laboratory – within industry rather than academia ideally.
  • Strong scientific communication skills and strong understanding of theoretical backgrounds.
  • Demonstratable ability to deliver clear conclusions from the analysis of research activities
  • Ability, understanding and willingness to seek expert assistance where required either using internal resources or seeking external input as required.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with one or more of the following: Python, LabView, SQL
  • Experience in fabrication of organic electronics, particular the fabrication of optoelectronic devices using organic semiconductors is a strong advantage.
  • Experience of working in a cleanroom environment.
  • Experience with a wide range of device fabrication or semiconductor processing equipment, for example, coaters, evaporators, and metrology systems is highly desirable.
