Job description
- Develop, direct, and implement strategic internal and external communications efforts, including digital content, web, and media engagement, to increase understanding and support of the organization’s programs, projects, and activities.
- Coordinate and facilitate the development of biennial communications work plans, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic goals.
- Direct and coordinate alignment on messaging across the organization and with global partners, including private sector members and academic institutions.
- Lead the development and editing of content for various publications, including news releases, feature articles, reports, and digital media, to highlight the organization’s programs and accomplishments.
- Ensure consistent, timely, and relevant messaging by overseeing the maintenance of a global digital repository of communications content.
- Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, providing communication counsel and guidance to the executive director and other key leaders.
- Build and foster relationships with journalists, influencers, and the science community to enhance the organization’s visibility and reputation.
- Collaborate with regional trade associations, research centers, and universities to ensure consistency in messaging and strategic approaches to industry challenges.
- Develop focused government and external affairs objectives for the organization, prioritizing efforts based on market opportunities and the potential to influence favorable outcomes.
- Ensure timely information flow to internal leaders about policy developments, regulatory changes, and emerging opportunities that impact the organization.
- Establish and maintain a network of domestic and international government policy and regulatory contacts to support the organization’s objectives.
- Inform and educate key regulators about the importance of the organization’s initiatives, advocating for supportive policies and regulatory environments.
- Create and maintain a strong network of NGO allies, trade associations, academic institutions, and industry groups to support the organization’s objectives.
- Advocate for corporate external affairs priorities and goals, ensuring alignment with broader business strategies and objectives.
- Engage with research centers and universities to foster collaborations that support the organization’s mission and objectives.
- Manage a team of two, providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure the effective execution of communications and government affairs strategies.
NGO|Based in Amsterdam
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, political science, or a related field. A master’s degree is desirable.
- At least 10 years of professional experience in managing communications, public relations, or government affairs programs.
- Strong understanding of communications and public relations principles and their role in advancing organizational agendas.
- Expertise in preparing and disseminating news releases, securing media placements, and designing public relations materials.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex information into concise and compelling content.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders with varying viewpoints.
- Proven track record in the sustainability, manufacturing industry, or natural sciences is a distinct advantage.
- Self-motivated and self-driven with a proactive and operational hands-on approach.
- Experience with legislative, legal, and regulatory activities, particularly within the EU, is highly desirable.
- Detail-oriented with strong project management skills and the ability to lead, motivate, and develop others.
- Inventive and creative, particularly in resource-constrained environments.
- Fluency in English is essential; skills in other languages, particularly Japanese and/or Korean, are an advantage.
- Ability to commute 3 times a week to the office (Amsterdam).
